Submission Guidelines

All submissions should come with a cover letter that includes contact information, a brief description of the work, a professional/personal biography, and a self-addressed stamped envelope (SASE). All submissions should be presented in a professional manner. We read year-round and reply as soon as possible. Simultaneous submissions are fine so long as we are notified if/when your piece is accepted by another organization. No submissions will be returned unless stipulated in your cover letter, or without sufficient postage on your SASE. We accept electronic submissions, but the sub must be in the body of the email, not as an attachment. If we like what we read in the email, we will request another sample in another form. All electronic submissions should come via eMail and have the genre of your submission and the word "submission" ... "Poetry Submission" / "Screenplay Submission" ... and should follow the same format as hard copy submissions: brief intro; bio; sample. Finally, never send the only copy of your work.

Genres

We read poetry, fiction, memoir, nonfiction, criticism, journalism, reviews, letters, and novel treatments for consideration in Cadillac Cicatrix and for other projects. If you don't see your genre below, contact us and let us know what you have. We are open to your interpretations of how the written word can be manipulated and how art can be perceived.

Art - Digital formats for art transfer are best (ie: pdf/jpg/eps/etc). Mail or email images.

Essays - Essays of a journalistic or expository integrity can be submitted electronically or through the mail.

Novels - Mail cover letter with a two-page synopsis of work, including a brief introduction and how you can be reached.

Poems - Send a letter with any selections (3 - 7 poems). Include a brief introduction and how you can be reached.

Stories - We request a cover letter with any submission. Include a brief introduction and how you can be reached.

Editing Services

The writing process is difficult. Any author can tell you that. The ones who "make it" are the ones who stick it out and perfect their craft. The old adage that writing is twenty percent talent and eighty percent editing can be true. But what the adage doesn't suggest is there are ways to make this process less painful.

Each NorthernPros editor offers their own individual services in the genres of poetry, prose, and screenplay. With any of our services comes a variety of helpful tools for new and seasoned writers. Whether you're attempting to finish your first manuscript or you're submitting a proposal to an agent or publisher, NorthernPros can help.

Each editor is responsible for the work they do. They are each responsible for their own rates. Depending on the project, rates are applied on a sliding scale. The best way to know if we are right for one another is to "date." The best thing to do is contact the editor you wish to work with, send a sample of your work with an allusion to our Editorial Services, and we will get back to you. Please understand we all have lives too, and that patience truly is a perceptible virtue.

Screenplays

If you are interested in sending us your screenplay for any purpose other than editing, please do not send the entire script. Please do send only the first thirty pages, with your contact information and a brief treatment for the entire script. (Because we are developing our film department currently, we are not accepting scripts for production. That does not mean we would not be interested in what you are doing. Whatever your intentions are for contacting us with your script, please do let us know what you would like us to do with it.)

If you are sending us your script for the purpose of having it edited, please send the entire script with a treatment of the entire script. submissions should not exceed industry standard length (90-120 pages) for feature-length scripts. Do not send the only copy of your script.

It is the sole responsibility of the screnwriter/author to protect the authorship of their submitted work by registering it with the Writers Guild of America and/or the U.S. Copyright Office.
